I have decided to set some photography and business goals for this year and I really think they are all completely do-able!
1 Upgrade my camera body.
Right now I am still rocking my 50d but I hope to upgrade next month to the 7d or even the 5dMarkII since the price on it has dropped with the 5dMarkIII coming out this year.
2 Take more session style photos of my own kids.
I don’t have nearly enough photos of my girls and now with my new baby it’s so important to shoot more and capture all those little moments and milestones.
3 Take more self-portraits.
I almost never, ever get in front of the camera. That has to change this year so my kids will have photos of me.
4 Get my props and gear organized.
I currently keep my props in our school room and they are anywhere and everywhere. I also need to purge some of my baskets and larger props that I don’t use anymore.
5 Learn to use my new Speedlite to its full potential.
I recently purchased the Canon Speedlite 580EXII and a book on flash by Bryan Peterson. Need to dive in and get flashing!
6 Finish a Project 52 – one photo posted each week for the entire year!
I signed up to participate in Annie’s 52 Week Project and also the MCP Project 12. I plan to fully participate and I know this will give me the motivation to shoot more for myself.
7 Book 20 newborns this year.
That’s less than 2 per month and I really think I can do that!
8 Nail composition and focus and kick my images up a notch or two.
I’m almost always happy with my images however I know they still need lots of work and I have a lot to learn.
9 Take a workshop and learn something completely new to me.
I’m thinking of taking one of the wonderful CM workshops or Breakout Sessions this year just to learn something new. Studio Lighting maybe?
10 Get some pullback shots at my sessions this year.
Especially of my newborn setups. I absolutely love to see pullback shots. They have helped me tremendously in my newborn set ups. If I can help someone else who is learning, it will be worth it!
11 Get my business in full gear, blog more, advertise more, and get files organized.
The “business” part is my least favorite about photography. But I think getting organized and a good marketing set up will help me like it more.
12 I want to do at least 5 non-profit sessions for organizations and charity.
I really feel led to do sessions for those who can’t afford it or for more non-profit and charitable organizations.
